Visa Procedure and Fees

The type of visa you need—either F-1 or M-1—depends on your course of study and the type of school you plan to attend. It is important to schedule your visa interview as soon as you are accepted into a university.

Once accepted, the university will send you a SEVIS-generated Form I-20. Both you and your school official must sign this form. Each individual will receive their own Form I-20, which must be presented at the Embassy during the interview.

All students, along with their spouse and minor children who plan to live in the United States with the student, must be registered in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Visa Application Fees:

  • F-1/M-1 Visa: $185, payable at Eastern Bank Limited
  • SEVIS Fee (F-1 Student): $350, payable through www.fmjfee.com
